Isabelle Ormerod
Isabelle is part of the FARSCOPE PhD Program based at the Bristol Robotics Lab (University of the West of England & University of Bristol). Now in the 2nd year of this program, she now looks to explore data-driven techniques to help inform human factors and human-centred design. Her current research project looks into the efficacy of multi-model techniques to gather product interaction insights.
She has previous industrial experience at Crux Product Design, working across the medical and FMCG sectors as a life sciences engineer for two years, working mainly as an FEA specialist during this time. Prior to this, Isabelle was awarded a 1st class Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Bristol.
Alongside her PhD, she’s a founding member of Robotics Inclusive and a Lead for Women in Robotics UK, organisations that run events across the robotics industry, looking to gather best practice to encourage IDEA (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility) across academia and industry. Women in Robotics UK and the University of Bristol are current recipients of a RAEng Ingenious award: https://raeng.org.uk/ingenious

Design Spaces Workshop On Saturday, a workshop was held about design spaces, exploring what they are and how they differ from solution spaces. This led to an engaging discussion on whether parametric design and generative design are fundamentally different approaches to exploring design spaces or merely increasingly complex versions of the same method. The workshop […]
Visit to Virginia Tech
Earlier in July I was fortunate to go and visit Virginia Tech in the US at the invitation of Associate Professor Tripp Shealy. This followed on from the Design Computing and Cognition conference in Montreal where we presented a paper and ran a workshop on design neurocognition. During the visit, and along with Auron Avinash, […]
